That Gory Animated Film Conclusion That Lingers Audiences
Out of all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I have ever watched, nothing has remained with me quite like the terror-laced conclusion of the explicitly bloody as well as deeply subversive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, this Spain-based writer-director crafted a dark, bleak , often savage universe with a few small , forlorn hints of optimism.
While Unicorn Wars seems like it came from a drive to push the medium even more, the director clarified that it was rather a try to express a global, multicultural theme regarding “the mutual source of each battle.”
That message is communicated by means of a band of brightly hued teddy bears , obviously based on a famous series of cuddly figures.
Maturing in a community built around militarism and the war machine, many of these animals are obsessed with slaughtering the mythical beasts, due to a holy book that claims the bears they used to be masters of the woodland, before the unicorns drove them out.
A few did not entirely bought into the propaganda, , choose to sample narcotics or mate in the forest.
In contrast to their gentle counterparts, these bright beings display genitals , clear libidos.
For one especially vicious, cynical bear, the character Bluey, the conflict with unicorns becomes a route to power — and specifically to dominance above his softer, nicer brother the bear Tubby.
This bear is a bully and a seeming sociopath , and while terror dominates his squad and claims his teammates sequentially, he grabs more and more power on his own behalf, through ever more violent, damaging approaches.
At the same time, the horned creatures are enduring their own horror, through a spreading, destructive monster in their woods.
“In the early stages, it appears as a comedy,” the director stated. “But then it evolves into a more serious and sad film. And in the finale, it becomes a scary feature.”
The Unicorn Wars commences feeling a bit like one of the most whimsical films by an iconic filmmaker, that uncover a wicked pleasure in letting drawn beings swear, engage in violence, or engage sexually.
Afterward it becomes something more like a more grim movie from the same director, including ever more visual gore and a palpable connection to the real suffering of battle.
In the finale, it’s a full-on extreme drama massacre.
The horror which makes this a perfect Halloween viewing begins a lot earlier than one might expect.
The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the devoted fans of gore, for enthusiasts of intense movies who wish to view something they have not seen on-screen before, and can endure a narrative which delivers no restraint.
Watch it in a dimly lit space without any distractions, and the conclusion will dig deep within you and stay with you.
