Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Fitness Concerns.

'Major setback' for England after Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson added to England's injury problems after leaving the playing area early on day two in the Melbourne Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

The touring camp reported Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and would spend time on the sidelines to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the series beginning on 4 January begins at the end of the week.

England have been without strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was added to the party to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled early in the series, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was omitted from the previous Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, then making 28 while batting among just a trio of English batsmen to get into double digits.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he resumed on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of his spell, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the fourth Ashes Test having missed of the third.
