Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
