Instructor Fatally Shot and Two Dozen Pupils Seized in Armed Clash at Nigerian School

Violent incident at educational facility
Educational institutions in Nigeria's northern region have become frequent targets for militant organizations

Gun-wielding individuals have killed a teacher and kidnapped no fewer than 25 pupils in an assault against a girls' secondary school in north-western Nigeria, police reports indicate.

The armed faction breached the comprehensive secondary school for girls in Kebbi State's Maga area at around 4 AM local time on the beginning of the work week, officials stated.

The assailants "engaged police personnel on duty in a firefight" before breaching the school's outer barrier and taking the pupils captive from their dormitory, according to a statement.

One member of staff was fatally shot while defending the students. An additional employee received firearm injuries and is now being treated medically.

Observers recounted a considerable contingent of armed individuals, known locally as bandits, who came shooting randomly to cause panic.

Community members informed journalists that the gunmen subsequently marched a contingent of young women into surrounding rural areas.

The law enforcement confirmed they had positioned "supplementary tactical squads, alongside military personnel and local protection units" to the area.

A systematic finding and recovery effort is currently ongoing in nearby woodlands and suspected escape routes.

In the last several years, learning centers in northern Nigerian regions have increasingly been targeted for armed groups, who frequently execute kidnappings to request monetary settlements or secure advantages in discussions with officials.

The assault in Kebbi State highlights the persistent security crisis afflicting the area, causing relatives in Maga in a situation of anxious fatigue as they wait and hope for their young ones' unharmed reappearance.

Safety emergency in Nigeria's northern territories has intensified significantly in recent months, with schools bearing the brunt of the violence.
