Airport Disruption and Parliament Standoff

Previously that day, thousands of grievers temporarily invaded the city's air terminal, disrupting a ceremony where President William Ruto and other officials were accepting Odinga's body with military honors.

Crowds also occupied adjacent streets and sought to penetrate the legislative building, where the administration had originally scheduled the public viewing.

National Impact and Ethnic Support

While predominantly identified as an political challenger, Odinga served as senior minister in 2008 and also formed a political pact with the leader last year in a public service marked by evolving coalitions.

He inspired strong loyalty among adherents, particularly in his Luo community based in the country's west, many of whom believe he was denied the presidency by vote manipulation.
